DANVILLE – According to the Danville Police Department in southern Virginia, a famous character known as “Tickle” on the popular “Moonshiners” reality television show on the Discovery Channel has been arrested recently.
Police said today that they arrested Steven Ray Tickle, age 35, on charges of public intoxication last Thursday, March 7th in Danville.
According to statements from the police department, Tickle was allegedly drinking in a car in a parking lot at a gas station when someone called the police to report it.
“At approximately 2:41 pm last Thursday a citizen approached a Danville Police Officer and reported that a man was drinking in public while sitting in a nearby convenience store parking lot,” said the police.
When police arrived at Charley’s Stop and Shop on the Franklin Turnpike in Danville, they said they found Tickle in a vehicle drinking.
“He was also drinking from an open container,” said Danville Police. “The officer approached him and detected a strong odor of alcohol as well as normal indications of being intoxicated.”
When Tickle could not arrange for someone to drive him home, the police said they arrested him on misdemeanor charges of being drunk in public. He was released later that same day, said police.
Tickle, who lives in rural Pittsylvania County, Virginia, is well known to viewers of the popular “Moonshiners” TV show on the Discovery Channel cable network. The show goes behind the scenes to show the efforts of moonshiners in the North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee mountains as they try to brew illegal corn whiskey and other spirits.
The charistmatic and often comical Tickle is one of the main characters on the show and is usually seen helping a local fire chief named Tim in the mountains of Virginia to make moonshine in the backwoods, as they try to elude revenue officials. ::
