RALEIGH – According to the Raleigh Police Department, several streets were closed in downtown Raleigh this afternoon when a woman threatened to jump off of a building.  Three downtown street blocks were closed including Salisbury Street, Cabarrus Street and Gale Street.

Earlier in the day, Jim Sughrue of the Raleigh Police Department said that “Raleigh Police Department officers are dealing with a situation in downtown involving a female who might do harm to herself.”

The woman was not identified, but various media reports said that she was threatening to jump off the ledge of a parking deck in the area.

Luckily for everyone involved, after negotiations with officers at the scene, the woman eventually came down from the precarious situation and surrendered herself to police.

“It ended at approximately 5:30 when she came down at the behest of officers who had been speaking with her,” said Raleigh Police spokesman Jim Sughrue in a statement to The Raleigh Telegram.

Sughrue said that no charges are expected in the case and that all of the closed streets have since been reopened after the incident ended.  ::
